The Romanian part of the Danube, between Bazias and the Black Sea, has a length of 1075 km. This represents about 37,5 % of the total length of the Danube (2860 km).
We may consider that the „Romanian Danube” has 5 specific areas for tourism: |
1. The Danube Gorges (also known as Clisura or The Iron Gates) (between Bazias and Drobeta-Turnu Severin) 2. Southern Oltenia (between Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Giurgiu) 3. Southern Baragan (between Giurgiu and Călărasi) 4. Dobrudja (Dobrogea) (Dobrudja is all the area between the Danube, the Delta and the Black Sea. As a bicycle track section we consider it between Călărasi and Tulcea) 5. The Danube Delta and the Black Sea coast (including the lagunar lakes of Razem-Sinoe) (between Tulcea-Murighiol-Jurilovca and Năvodari)
The access to the starting point in Bazias is from the Serbian-Romanian border crossing point Kaluderovo-Naidas or using the railway station and the international airport of Timisoara. The connecting route from Naidas to Bazias (the entering point of the Danube to Romania) is along the Nera River, starting at the bridge on the National Road No. 57 and following Lescovita – Zlatita – Parneaura – Campia – Socol and Bazias on 20 kilometers. The connecting bicycle route from Timisoara (the greatest city in Western Romania with international airport and railway station) is: |

| STAGE 00 – Approaching stage Timisoara-Bazias (184 km) |
Timisoara – 33 – Buzias – 30 – Berzovia – 25 – Resita – 9 – Lupac – 30 – Grădinari –13 – Oravita – 21 – Naidăs – 23 – Bazias
There are necessary about 3 weeks for a bicycle trip along the Danube on the Romanian bank. The recommended period is April-October, but it is better to avoid traveling in a hot summer day, especially in the Southern and Eastern sections. We divided the Bicycle Track in logical areas, stages that can be done in one day (maximum 120 km) and sections of 30-40 for the necessary stops for rest so you can easier to plan your trip according to have some days for rest, recreation and sightseeing. Because the accommodation network is not constantly developed along the Danube, our recommendation is to use the camping gear as a back-up. There are connections with other transportation like buses (almost every village), trains (Orsova, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Calafat, Corabia, Turnu Măgurele, Zimnicea, Giurgiu, Oltenita, Călărasi, Cernavodă, Brăila, Galati, Tulcea, Ceamurlia, Constanta), ferryboats or ships (in the main harbours), international airports (Timisoara, Constanta, Bucharest - 40 km from Giurgiu)

| 1. The Danube Gorges (The Iron Gates or the Clisura) |
Characteristics: The area of the Danube Gorges is the most important for bicycle trails, both for the biking routes and for the accommodation possibilities. The national road is characterized by low traffic between Bazias and Orsova and very high traffic between Orsova and Drobeta Turnu Severin on European roads. There are wonderful landscapes and the tourism infrastructure is under development.
